  2. What is Bench32?
  3. =======================================================================

  5. Bench32 is a system level benchmark that tests how well your system performs
  6. various tasks.  These tasks are separated into the following catagories:
  7.  
  8. -Processor Test
  9. -Memory Test
  10. -Disk Test
  11. -Video Test
  12.  
  13. A series of tests are performed for each of those 4 categories.  
  14.  
  15. - Not your average benchmark! -
  16.  
  17. Bench32 doesn't just run a few loops to verify that your components
  18. exist, it is a high level, statistical, analysis tool.  Bench32 will
  19. perform stastitics on all tests performed (if a long test is specified)
  20. so that you receive a score that is accurate as possible.  Means, 
  21. distributions, standard deviations, weighting schemes, rejection analysis,
  22. error propogation and regressional algorithms are all subjected on the
  23. data that is taken taken from benchmarking.  Bench32 can even tell you
  24. if the benchmark performed accurately or not within 3 levels of accuracy.
  25. From the standpoint of accepting scores as legitimate, Bench32 will do
  26. all of this for you leaving you with the duty of saving files.

  28. Bench32 uses a very wide range of the Win32 API to fully test the capabilities
  29. of a Win32 based system.  This includes:
  30.  
  31. 2-D and 3-D animation,
  32. 3-D rendering,
  33. photoeffects,
  34. other special effects,
  35. metafile transforming,
  36. fractal geometry,
  37. figure drawing,
  38. Pixel drawing,
  39. Bezier and other advanced API drawing,
  40. Synchronous and Asynchronous Disk I/O,
  41. Cached and Uncached Disk I/O,
  42. Direct and Sequential Disk I/O,
  43. True System Ram Performance testing,
  44. CPU and FPU testing,
  45. Single Processor and Multiple Processor Testing (up to 32 processors),
  46. And much, much more.

  48. Bench32 adds the ability to mail scores to multiple persons using both
  49. MAPI and TCP/IP.

  51. Bench32 also adds the usefulness of saving files while still retaining
  52. the ability to integrate those files back into the benchmark.  This means
  53. that a person sending his scores for his SMP machine to another person
  54. who uses Bench32 on a single processor machine with different hardware
  55. will view the data as if he were on the SMP machine (from the single
  56. processor machine).

  58. Bench32 adds many usefull graphs who's data is saved with each file.
  59. These graphs can also be printed out.

  61. Bench32 doesn't just stop here as far as data analysis goes, it allows
  62. you to run real time counters to detect:  how much CPU time is being
  63. used by each and every processor in the system, how many context switches
  64. are being made per second, how many interrupts each processor is 
  65. experiencing per second, how many times an application has to page out
  66. to auxillery memory, how much memory is available at any given instant,
  67. and how often an application pages out to disk (thrashing).  These figures
  68. can often be used to analyze any deviations that might have been seen
  69. in benchmarking.

  76. and precise tools.  It also makes it simple to view and share the data
  77. with others.  Bench32 can help you pinpoint any problems that you are
  78. experiencing in your system, or give you insurance that your system is
  79. performing up to par.

  86. icon.  There are tool tips available with each icon that will guide
  87. you through what each icon means.
